There is a wide range of support available provided by charities and organisations within the LGBTQIA+ community.

For many, the first hurdle they have to overcome is accepting who they are and then deciding to come out and tell family and friends.

This can be a very difficult and worrying time. There is still a lot of fear around the reaction that could be faced from other people. Being rejected by their family and friends or the impact it could have at work either from colleagues or the worry that it could negatively impact on their career.

Growing up and feeling different, often from a young age can impact heavily on a person's mental health. Knowing that you are different to your friends because of who you find attractive or feeling that you are trapped in the wrong body are real feelings and not just a phase that you are going through or will grow out of.

For those who feel trapped, beginning the journey to transition can have a big impact on their mental health and emotions, add that to the side effects of the treatment it is a very difficult time.

Considerations to the feelings of family and friends who are navigating and supporting a family member, a friend or a work colleague who has come out or is transitioning also needs to be sensitively considered, for some this could be a very challenging time in accepting the change

We have put together a comprehensive list of support links for everyone within the community, for young people, families, parents, caregivers and friends.
